Burnley fan Jack got a Bolton kit for his 14th birthday – and admitted his family had a laugh about it.

Blessed Trinity student Jack signed for Bolton Wanderers earlier this month on his birthday after being spotted playing his first game for Lancashire FA Boys.

“I was playing in the Saturday League for AFC Darwen and the Sunday League for Brierfield Celtic,” said the defender.

“After one Sunday League game, I got asked to go to trials for Lancashire FA Boys after teacher John Kelly at Blessed Trinity had put me forward.

"My first game was against Bolton in a friendly and they offered me a contract.

“I played a couple more games and got offered something at Manchester United and Fleetwood but I chose Bolton as they came to me first.

“I am a Burnley season ticket holder so there were a couple of jokes when I got my Bolton kit for my 14th birthday!"

Jack said he was stunned to get one never mind three offers as he had never been involved in football academies before.

“It was my first trial and I was surprised as I had mixed thoughts about academies before that, as I have seen players who have been released and how it has affected them.

“So I was surprised when I was offered a contract but it's a great opportunity for me and now I have to try and impress between now and the end of the season.”

While he is now focusing on Bolton, his favourite player is a Claret.

“I like James Tarkowski. He is tall, strong and I like the way he plays. He likes to get blocks and clearances in and is organised and defensive-minded. He is someone I admire.”
