Blessed Trinity students Cara and Ross have hit the right notes to pass a tough music theory examination.

The pair have both just passed their Grade 1 Music Theory  examination - both with merit - and it's the first time it's been taken at school.

Cara enjoys classical music and plays the guitar while Ross plays the trumpet.

“They have worked extremely hard for this over six months,” said music teacher Ms Lanney.

“It will count as an extra GCSE if they get to Grade 5.

“It is quite rare as people normally focus on the performance aspect but ignore the theory side, so the students have done really well.

“They had to sit a 90 minute exam paper on a Saturday, learning to read music and write about its technicalities.

“It's the first time it has ever been done at school and I am very proud. We have already started on Grade 2.”
