Blessed Trinity's Year Seven football team reached the last 64 of a national tournament and were crowned Lancashire five-a-side champions in their first year together.

They took part in the English Schools Football Association Cup, reaching the last 64 in the nine-a-side event.

They beat St Wilfrid's in Blackburn 5-2 in Round One, Ribblesdale 3-2 in Round Two, Our Lady's in Preston 2-1 in the next round before losing to Hazel Grove in Stockport in Round Four. Luca scored five goals with Oliver and Jett grabbing three each.

The team then took part in ESFA five-a-side Burnley competition and were victors after overcoming Burnley High School and Unity College. This meant they represented Burnley in the Lancashire tournament and drew 0-0 with Park High in Colne, beat Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School 2-0, beat Longridge by the same scoreline and then overcame Ribblesdale to be crowned Lancashire Champions.

In the Lancashire Schools seven-a-side FA Cup competition, they beat Unity and Shuttleworth to go through to Round Two and the knock out stages but lost to St Wilfrid's in Blackburn after extra time.

"The Year Sevens have the makings of a really good team," said Mr Stubbs, Curriculum Leader for PE and Sport.

"We have two players at Burnley's Academy in Harley and Codie and our goalkeeper Luke is at Bolton Wanderers. They have enjoyed competing in these tournaments together."
